2017 - 3C are ready for you!
Welcome to 2017! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday. 3C have come back mid-unit, so we are raring to go and continue our exciting 'Where We Are In Place And Time' inquiry about discoveries and exploration! In fact, we had sooooo much energy that we had to release some of it into this motivational movie. Enjoy!
Exploration and Discovery Padlet
Thank you to all those who took part in the holiday home learning. It was really interesting for the children to see each other's exploration and discoveries. It is really important for the children to understand that they are explorers and are discovering new things every single day. So, whilst our unit may be looking at very famous historical explorers, such as Marco Polo and Dr Livingstone, the children are explorers in their own right too! If you have not had a chance yet to look, please follow the link below to check out the padlet page.

Biographies of Explorers
One of 3C's language focuses for this unit is biography writing. We have been inquiring into many different biographies and the features that are used to create an effective one. We then created a biography check list and used this to make our own biographies of famous explorers. We looked at their big achievements, how they are remembered and in what ways they changed people's lives.
This connected wonderfully to our second line of inquiry - 'How discoveries lead to change'.
Using similar skills and features that we used to create biographies, we decided to make our own obituaries! This gave us a chance to consider our own legacy (a related concept for this unit) and to think about the impact that we want to make in our own lives. Although this sounds quite depressing, it is actually a very positive activity to visualise future successes and it very much highlights how we need to enjoy and appreciate every day!
New Year's Resolutions
My 2017 New Year resolution is to....
Whilst we are looking at resolutions and change (a key concept in our current unit), this is possibly a wonderful time to upload a beautiful scene from one of my favourite films of all time - 'The Lion King.' If you have time, watch this with your child and talk about it with them. There are some really powerful lessons and messages in this clip!
Growth Mindest of the Week
It is a new year (2017) so it is a great time for us all to reflect on things that are going well, as well as perhaps things that could change or need to be viewed from a difference perspective. 3C have been reflecting on what changes could make us better learners and enjoy our time at school even more. We are all risk-takers in 3C, so we are not going to be scared to 'make the jump' and always aim to be the best that we can be!
Welcome to the G3 blog.
