Grade 3 have been hard at work over the last few days thinking of, designing and (in some cases) making sustainable inventions that could positively impact TIS. The focus was on trying to create something that was sustainable, innovative and economically viable. A tough ask, but there were some wonderfully creative ideas and designs from the students.
Many of the designs focus on creating power from the rain, wind and sun. This was excellent to see as these are all sustainable and are free and in abundance. Please see some of the designs, thinking and ideas below.
Mr Matt's Report Card
As it is report writing season, I thought it was fair that I allowed the children to reflect on my progress this year too and to give me suggestions on how I might be able to improve. There was some very helpful feedback and advice which I will try to take on board with my next Grade 3 class.
$10,000 Challenge Results
This challenge has now spanned two whole units of inquiry. Initially, the focus of the challenge was to explore the value of metals and the economics behind how they were traded on the stock market. However, once we realised that other commodities could be tradeable too, such as coffee, sugar and cocoa, we realised there was an excellent connection to sustainability and responsilbility which fitted with our current unit.
So, the results are in. Congratulations to the Grey Seals on making the most money and trading themselves into a very respectable profit. Perhaps Wall Street might beckon for members of this group one day! Sadly, the teacher group made quite a large loss, so I am sure the children are glad that they ignorned my advice that they should all purchase silver when it was valued at over $18 an ounce!!
Over the last few days 3C have been sharing their 'Genius Projects'. We have been focusing on our presenting skills throughout this unit, so this was a great opportunity to practice these skills. The children set out the presentations in a variety of interesting ways and explained clearly why they chose their project and what they have learnt throughout the whole process.
Grade 3 Party
The end of the year is almost upon us. Thank you for all your help and support this year.
To celebrate the end of a very successful year, we are hosting the Grade 3 party this Wednesday (7th June) between 2 and 3PM by the fish pond. We are going to order in pizza for the party! You are very welcome to attend this party and, if you wish to contribute to the pizza cost, please send in money to Ms Ariana (Gabriel's mother).
After our party it is the sprinkler party on the main secondary field. It may be a good idea for your child to bring a towel, as things will probably get very wet!
Growth Mindset of the Week
So, we are at the end of a wonderful year of self-discovery, stimulating learning and fun. It has been my pleasure to guide your children through a year full of exciting inquiries.
Finally, a huge thank you to all of the parents for your support, encouragement and enthusiasm. Education really is a collaborative experience and we achieve so much more when we work well together.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer vacation.
Welcome to the G3 blog.
