3 WAY CONFERENCES - Friday 23rd September
The 3 Way Conferences will be held on Friday 23rd September. If you are uncertain about your time, you can check by reviewing the email you would have received from Larisa Tegay, or verify with your teacher. It is very important to note that this is not just a standard teacher / parent conference. The meeting, as the name suggests, is a way for students, parents and teachers to reflect about the student's learning, to share and identify strengths and challenges and to collaboratively set objectives for future growth.
A valuable part of this exercise is for the teacher to get to know the child in the context of their family, to help the teacher understand their home learning environment.
We would ask parents and their children to be on-time for their meeting time. Please knock on the door two minutes before your appointment time. This will help with time management and ensure that every conference receives the full twenty minutes.
Please also remember to visit all of the wonderful specialist teachers who work with the grade 3 students. Each of them have set a small challenge for the students to complete in their room or learning environment.
Dot Day Fun
Grade 3 had a fabulous time during the Dot Day celebrations last week. Dot Day is an annual event based on the wonderful book called 'The Dot' by Peter Reynolds. The book encourages children to be creative and to explore their passions and potential to the full. The day inspires students from all over the world and is now a very important day on the TIS calendar. Please find some photos from the day below.
This week Grade 3 have been doing their MAP testing in the computer labs. MAP stands for 'Measures of Academic Progress' and takes place two times a year for children in grade 3 and above. These tests, in Mathematics and Reading, provide us with lots of valuable data. This data will then help us to reach the needs and requirements of every child and will directly effect the teaching that your child receives.
Unit of Inquiry
Grade 3 have been exploring our third line of inquiry - 'How effective teamwork can accomplish common goals'. We have also been looking at our organisational, cooperating and acquisition of knowledge skills that are the focus of this current unit.
The classes have been inquiring into what skills we need to work successfully in a team and what common goals we have in our classrooms each day. We have been looking at how we can cooperate together and which ways we can organise ourselves to be effective teams. Some of the team activities we have been using to explore this line of inquiry include the human knot, land mines, rope games and zoom.
Please see below some photos and a video below showing some of our efforts to explore this line of inquiry.
Grade 3 Twitter
Grade 3 continues to explore Twitter and continues to tweet to share their understanding of what we are learning about in class. If you want daily updates, photos and videos of your children's learning, please follow us - @grade3tis
